English Premier League club Chelsea FC won the UEFA Champions League Title after defeating Manchester City 1-0. It was the club’s third appearance in the Champions League and their second win.
The Blues scored in the 42nd minute when German midfielder Kai Havertz got past City goalkeeper Ederson on a breakaway. From that point on Chelsea dominated defensively.
Notable players that won the title include N’Golo Kante, who previously won two Premier League Titles, a Europa League Cup, and a World Cup in 2018 with France. Now Kante, widely regarded as one of the best center midfielders of his generation, has added the elusive Champions League to his resume.
Thiago Silva, who has established himself as one of the greatest Brazilian defenders of all time, won his first Champions League title as well.
Then there is the American wonder boy Christian Pulisic, who became the first player from the United States of America to appear and win a Champions League title.
The club’s manager Thomas Tuchel, was chosen to lead the team midseason following the firing of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. At the time, Chelsea was an inconsistent team with defensive problems and it seemed that they were not going to finish top four in the league.
Tuchel immediately changed the dynamic of the team, as they became more structured and productive both on the attack and the defense. It led to one of the biggest turnarounds in the club’s history.
If Tuchel is to stay, Chelsea has an opportunity to return to its previous dominant form of years’ past.
