The Cincinnati Bengals came off a horrible 2019 season, finishing a NFL-worst 2-14. They were atrocious in every aspect of the game, particularly at the quarterback position. Injuries and inconsistent play finally caught up to Andy Dalton and the team finally decided to look for a replacement for their long-time gunslinger. Enter Heisman-winning college superstar Joe Burrow. With the 1st overall pick, it was obvious that the Bengals could not bungle this opportunity.
Other than the Heisman trophy, Burrow was coming off a College Football Playoff National Championship and had an overall incredible year, throwing for a jaw-dropping 5,671 yards with 60 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Additionally, his leadership and level-headed personality is the type of attitude needed to lead an NFL team. The AFC North must not sleep on the Bengals. If Burrow is the real deal, they can be a legitimate threat in a couple of years. The team also added a tall, physical wide receiver in Tee Higgins with their second pick of the draft. With multiple pro-bowl receiver AJ Green still on the roster, the Bengals offense is destined for improvement. Time will tell if last years’ equally atrocious defense will prevent teams from scoring on them with ease.
