Concerns continue to linger for Baltimore Orioles fans and players after first baseman Trey Mancini left the team to deal with what is called a “non-baseball related medical issue.” Orioles players Alex Cobb and Chris Davis told the media that there is a lot of concern for Trey and his family and they hope that he comes back as soon as possible.
The past three years have not been good for the Orioles as they finished last place in the AL east each time, with the past two seasons being particularly dreadful. The only positive to come from a dark and difficult time for the Orioles has been Mancini who has been a consistent slugger in the middle of the lineup and a fan favorite. Last year, he batted .291/.364/.535 with 35 home runs, 97 runs batted in, and 175 hits.
Once again, the Orioles are projected to not be very good this season, and it may take a while before they completely rebuild their team, but they have have shown signs of life and competitiveness in spring training so far, and a few players could have breakout seasons. Mancini not being there to lead by example to start the season could be detrimental to a team looking for any signs of life.
All in all, fans and players have expressed their support with whatever he is dealing with and hope that he will come back healthy and stronger.
