LeBron might be the G.O.A.T. Giannis might be the next great one. James Harden might be the best at getting to the free throw line. No one will argue that one of those three men will win the NBA MVP award this season. Nevertheless, the rest of the NBA cannot ignore what Bradley Beal is doing this year, despite playing on a bad team. Everyone can scoff; this man has a legitimate MVP case.
Beal scored 40 points last night at Capital One arena in a 122-115 victory against the New York Knicks. Okay, I get it. It was the god-awful Knicks, the same Knicks that flat-out disrespected its most famous celebrity fan Spike Lee for simply walking into the team’s employee entrance, which he apparently had been doing for 30 years. That being said, it was still an elite performance by a man who has been doing this all season and not getting the credit he deserves for it.
Beal is averaging 30.1 points per game this season, higher than LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Additionally, he has been without his right-hand man John Wall. James is working with fellow superstar Anthony Davis, Antetokounmpo is playing with All-Star Khris Middleton, and Harden is playing with fellow MVP Russell Westbrook. Beal is by himself, which is part of the reason that the Wizards have a bad record, but he is still putting up MVP-caliber numbers.
Now Beal is not going to win the NBA MVP because what the other three players are doing is phenomenal. LeBron has revitalized the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. Giannis is leading the best Bucks team since Kareem-Abdul Jabaar was there, and James Harden is still putting up ridiculous numbers despite having Westbrook next to him. Nevertheless, after an unnecessary All-Star snub, he should get the respect he rightfully deserves.
